Vendor Biography

Cara Rose is a full-time ceramic artist working as Adobe Rose Works in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Her whimsical pieces are usually thrown on a wheel, although she also hand builds and alters pots after they are formed.

Her ceramic art is highly decorated. She applies slips and underglazes for sgraffito and/or mishima embellishment (scratching through to clay and scratching through wax to then add lines of colorant). She also uses homemade newsprint underglaze transfers that are applied when a piece is leather hard (not quite dry). She has been known to add sculptural embellishment to some of her pieces.

Cara hopes that her love for clay seeps through her fingers and lives on in her pots for others to appreciate. Originally from Chicago, she has a B.A. from The University of Michigan and an M.S. from The University of Tennessee. She spent a lifetime in IT and retired after working as a technical writer/editor for 10 years. She is a member of Foothills Craft Guild since 2022 and was elected as a board member in 2024; Locally Grown Gallery in Oak Ridge, TN; and the Oak Ridge Art Center. Her work is also available in the Knoxville Museum of Art Gift Shop. She has 3 grown children, 9 grandchildren, a delightful bonus husband, John, who is CEO (Carries Every Object), and a cat.
