Vendor Biography

A naturalized Sint Maartian on the island for 2 decades, Laurey-Ann immerses herself full-time in her home pottery studio overlooking the Caribbean Sea: “Sculpting clay is a meditation for me – it calms and nourishes my Soul, and I feel grateful and fulfilled to spend my days up to my elbows in mud.

I find by closing my eyes and letting the clay emerge into what it wants to become, produces the most inspired results. I am inspired by taking what Nature created so perfectly (clay) and re-molding it into some new organic form… re-inventing… re-creating.

I am currently in a Hole-some (or, Whole-y?) phase, and create variations on an Urchin-like theme. The result emerges as a cross between the bubbles on the edge of breaking surf, and the intricate filigree of coral, melded into one form, which resembles a new breed of coral. My earthenware vessels are fired and glazed in a single-firing and may be used, or merely admired, as they are mostly dysfunctional 😉

I like to experiment in my pieces, with a sense of humour, and hope they can bring smiles to your heart, and evoke a sense of the sheer joy and harmony I experienced by creating each piece.”
